A guided tour of the Jardin Maria Serena

A guided tour of the Jardin Maria Serena

Between the sea, the lower reaches of the mountains, the Italian border and the old centre of Menton is a small piece of paradise; the Jardin Maria Serena. To soak up the magic of the place and discover all its secrets, the Hotel Villa Genesis team recommends you take a guided tour...

A verdant haven of peace; the Jardin Maria Serena

Designed in the late 19th century by Charles Garnier, the architect of the Paris Opera, the Villa Maria Serena occupies an enchanting location that is often referred to as ‘Little Africa’, and with good reason. Located on the seafront and stretching out to the foothills, the garden is a peaceful place where the blue sea serves as a soothing backdrop to vegetation that evokes thoughts of both Italy and Tunisia. A superb collection of palm trees and cycads, as well as strelitzias, dracenas and bauhinias flourish there in the temperate conditions, creating elegant perspectives.

In the company of an expert guide

At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, the Villa Maria Serena welcomed crowned heads and leading figures in the arts. It was acquired by a British banker who bequeathed it to the town just after the Second World War. In addition to its botanical diversity, this garden is a testament to the history of Menton and those who have lived there. The tours organised by the Office of Tourism are led by a qualified guide who will share with you many stories about the Villa and its garden and familiarise you with the exotic species that thrive there.

Discover one of the jewels of Menton in the company of an expert by taking a guided tour of the Jardin Maria Serena. Take advantage of the concierge service provided by your Hotel Villa Genesis and we will be happy to give you all the information you need to book your visit.
